The Royal Crown Amur Maple is one that has proven itself against the elements. Amur Maples, in general are among our top 5 favourite trees.
Like all Amur Maples, Royal Crown is extremely cold tolerant: tough as nails - It can be planted in the open north side without fear.

- Selected at U of M to handle high pH (alkaline) clay soils
- Dark green, lobed foliage turns deep purple, then bright red in fall
- Abundant bright red seed pods develop in August, turn beige in September, hold through winter & drop in spring
- Summer & fall interest; great for a feature tree in a yard
- Helicopter seeds have a low germination rate in spring due to cold winter temperatures
- Naturally grows as a multi-stem tree; can be trimmed to treeform when young or planted as a hedge
- Can be tapped for syrup

- Greatly improved resistance to chlorosis; if the leaves are yellow with green veins in summer, apply sulphur into the ground along the dripline
